Historically, “drawing from nature” has served as the artist’s most immediate dialogue with reality—an indexical proof of physical presence. Today, however, as Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) dissolve into the fabric of daily life, the “landscape” is no longer a stable, singular subject. It has evolved into a composite field where physical space, computer graphics, and sensory interfaces collide, redefining our perceptual experience in the augmented age.
Tracing the Virtual adopts a contemporary digital-first lens to reconsider the role of hand-drawing within a landscape of hyper-mediation and AI-engineered imagery.
In the augmented age, hand-drawing is far from obsolete; it has evolved into a practice of coexistence with computational logic. By reclaiming the act of looking, we redefine our own position within these layered realities—interrogating how we perceive the world and how we sustain a sense of “presence” between the body and the digital image.
